How can we help?

Can I request compensation if my flight is delayed or canceled?

Flight delays or cancellations are never ideal, but they do happen often due to bad weather, technical issues, or operational problems.

1. When Are You Eligible for Compensation?

You may be entitled to financial compensation or support if:

  • Your flight is significantly delayed (typically 2–3 hours or more, depending on the flight distance).
  • Your flight is canceled without sufficient advance notice.
  • You are denied boarding due to overbooking.

In some regions like the European Union (EU), the UK, or Canada, there are clear regulations that protect passenger rights, including fixed compensation amounts based on the length of the delay and the distance of the flight.

2. Types of Compensation You May Receive

  • Cash or bank transfer (if eligible).
  • Free rebooking on the next available flight.
  • Meal vouchers, accommodation, and transport assistance if the delay is long.
  • Full refund if you decide not to continue your journey.

3. When Compensation May Not Be Available

You may not be eligible for compensation if:

  • The delay or cancellation is due to extraordinary circumstances, such as severe weather, natural disasters, or security threats.
  • The airline informed you of the cancellation well in advance (e.g., more than 14 days before departure).
  • You arrived late for check-in or didn’t meet other airline requirements.

4. How to Request Compensation

  • Contact the airline directly, via their website, customer service email, or at the airport counter.
  • Provide relevant details such as your booking reference, flight number, delay duration, and reason (if known).
  • Keep all receipts for extra expenses (e.g., meals, hotel) to support your claim if reimbursement is possible.
